We Cater to Families at Aberdeen Smiles

Whatever your age, you deserve compassionate, high-quality dental care. At Aberdeen Smiles, we are totally comfortable and skilled with treating children as well as adults. We are not a pediatric dentistry. We are not an adults-only dentistry. We welcome patients of all ages.

As a family dentistry, we are convenient. No running around town to different dentists for different members of the family — who has time for that? If you want one place to take care of everyone’s oral health, call Aberdeen Smiles.

While we are highly experienced with children’s dentistry, we are not a pediatric dentist — so your kids will never age out of our practice. They will grow with us, from toddlerhood and beyond, and we will get to know them — and their teeth — well.

Keep Your Family’s Smiles Healthy

At Aberdeen Smiles, we offer the services designed to keep your and your children’s smiles healthy and beautiful for life — with an emphasis on good preventive care.

Cleanings and Exams

Our cleanings and examinations, combined with good oral hygiene habits at home, are perhaps the most important part of maintaining a healthy smile. Our skilled hygienists are able to remove decay-causing plaque and tartar that’s virtually impossible to reach with a toothbrush. X-rays enable us to see hidden cavities and other issues not visible to the naked eye. We can catch signs of gum disease before you even experience symptoms and will screen you for oral cancer.

The American Dental Association recommends bringing babies to the dentist when their first tooth comes in or by the age of one (whichever comes first). For these early visits, we focus on making sure the child has a fun, positive experience, as this will set the tone for a lifetime of dental appointments. If necessary, we can offer advice on thumb-sucking, and tips for easing teething pain. We will send baby home with a goodie bag too!

Sealants

Aptly named sealants seal off the teeth, so harmful bacteria have trouble reaching the enamel to do their damage. Patients of any age may benefit from sealants, but the procedure is recommended for children especially.

The Centers for Disease Control says that children who don’t have sealants have three times more cavities than children with sealants. Despite this startling statistic, only about 43% of kids between the ages of 6 and 11 have had them applied.

Sealants are a painted-on plastic coating that protects teeth from bacterial acid attacks. The process is simple, painless, and totally safe. First, we will thoroughly clean and dry the teeth that will receive sealants (typically the back molars). Next, we will apply a solution that roughens the tooth surface, which helps the sealants adhere better. After cleaning and drying the teeth again, we will paint on the sealants. A special blue light hardens and cures the material. While it’s still important to brush and floss regularly, sealants offer an extra layer of protection for vulnerable teeth.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride is a mineral that’s essential to maintaining robust, healthy tooth enamel. It’s often called “nature’s cavity fighter,” because it helps make the outer surface of the teeth resistant to harmful bacteria and the acids that cause decay.

Your teeth continuously lose fluoride through a process called demineralization. So it’s important to replenish the mineral through diet, tap water (most water supplies are supplemented with fluoride), toothpaste, and other means.

At Aberdeen Smiles, we offer special in-office treatments to ensure you and your children’s teeth are receiving the fluoride they need to stay strong.

Athletic Mouthguards

Some organizations require children wear athletic mouthguards for certain activities, but they are a good idea for anyone involved in a sport or hobby that can lead to tooth or mouth damage.

Our mouthguards are custom fitted and crafted to fit the dimensions of your mouth, so they are better fitting and more comfortable than the one-size-fits-all variety available at drugstores.

Nutritional Counseling

If you have a busy schedule and picky kids, feeding your family right may seem like an impossible task. But what we eat has an enormous effect on overall health and dental health specifically.

We offer nutritional counseling to advise you on tooth-healthy foods and strategies for incorporating them into your family’s routine.
