Call Aberdeen Smiles today at 605-277-9049 to schedule a consultation if you think you may suffer from sleep apnea. This condition makes sleeping soundly throughout the night impossible – for you and other members of your household.
Sleep apnea is a disorder that causes you to stop breathing hundreds of times throughout the night. When your breathing stops, usually from your tongue or tissues blocking your throat, your body responds by waking you up briefly so you can breathe again. These lapses in breathing can leave you feeling exhausted.
People who have sleep apnea have an increased risk of other health problems. These include high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, and strokes. This condition can increase complications of diabetes, and it may leave you more prone to be involved in car accidents due to lack of healthy sleep. Anyone can develop this sleep disorder, but people who are overweight, have large necks, have a family history of this condition, or are male are more likely to have it.
To treat this condition, you need to keep your airways open when you sleep. An oral appliance can change the position of your jaw, which lets you continue breathing. This allows you to get deep, healthy sleep and wake up feeling rested.
Talk to us about it at your next exam or schedule a consultation with us if you have one or more symptoms such as chronic snoring, daytime fatigue, irritability, mood swings, or a sore throat upon awakening.
Though sleep apnea is sometimes treated with a CPAP, many patients prefer an oral appliance. It is:

Very friendly staff and doctor. I will definitely recommend them to family and friends. Did an awesome job!! Thank you, Aberdeen Smiles!
Aberdeen Smiles has always had stellar customer service! My experience with them, my children and self included, has made us very comfortable during a routine clean to procedures! I’m thankful to find a truly amazing family dentist.
The hygienist and dentist were both patient and kind to my daughter. She loves going there and she has only been there once. I would recommend Aberdeen Smiles to any parent. Thanks, Ladies!!
Dr. Drake and the staff at Aberdeen Smiles provides an amazing and positive experience. I had extractions done and was pain free and very quick. I got upper and lower dentures and they are absolutely amazing. Great fit and look awesome. I can’t thank Dr Drake and staff for such an amazing experience. I would recommend them very to friends and family.
Very nice people! I really like Aberdeen Smiles, I think the dentists are in too much of a hurry though. I’d feel more comfortable with them taking a bit more time to make sure everything is 100% rather than just getting the patients in and out so we don’t have to sit in the chair too long. I’d rather sit too long so everything is right.
I went in for a cleaning, the hygienist was very pleasant and knowledgeable. I have a couple of teeth that need to be repaired, the dentist explained the procedure quite well. I highly recommend Aberdeen Smiles!!!
Great place fast service very friendly atmosphere would recommend to family and friends
Dr. Christina Ky, performed nothing less than a miracle on My mouth today! Aberdeen Smiles was far better with Me and My circumstances than any other office in the surrounding area. I have never felt that much investment in customer satisfaction as I felt there. I am continuing to have a great relationship with this office and recommend it!
Ok so love this gal that cleans my teeth… the whole staff is about NO PAIN… so normally I would do a numbing rinse just to do a cleaning and it would have taken an hour or more and this gal only takes like 30 minutes altogether. Just shocked and love it.. so much anxiety when going and it just stops when you go there and super surprised!!! Will never go anywhere else!!! Thanks bunches
Dr. Ky is amazing! Would recommend her to everyone! She’s super thorough and explains what she is doing and why, while wanting everything to be the best! The staff has always been super nice and accommodating. They are all wonderful people.
Sleep apnea is a chronic condition. You can take steps to alleviate the symptoms, but you are unlikely to “cure” this condition. You may be able to reduce the severity of your condition by losing weight and improving your overall health. For most people, managing the effects of sleep apnea with a CPAP or oral appliance is the best option. Major surgery to reposition the jaw can help some people.
To treat obstructive sleep apnea, you must find a way to keep your airway open when you’re asleep. For many patients, the first treatment recommendation is a CPAP machine. This involves wearing a mask so air can be pushed into your airway to keep it open. We offer another option, which is an oral appliance that adjusts the position of your jaw to keep your airway clear.
To diagnose sleep apnea, you need to complete a sleep study and have the results examined by a sleep doctor. You can talk to one of our dentists if you suspect that you may have this sleep disorder. If you are showing common symptoms such as frequent breathing stoppages, constant snoring, and daytime sleepiness, we can refer you somewhere to complete a study.
We can see you as soon as tomorrow!
